Motorhome Canopy Installed Matlock

Back in March 2016, Roger (our customer) approached Kappion with a requirement, he wanted a motorhome canopy installed. Roger was looking for a canopy that would protect his motorhome from the elements whilst being inconspicuous as the canopy would be situated close to the drive entrance and some distance away from the house.

From the initial site visit, Roger was very precise with his requirements and he wanted to keep the footprint of the motorhome canopy to a minimum as a lot of care and attention had been spent on his garden and pathway, which he wanted to keep intact.  As Roger had already got a clear picture of the motorhome canopy he wanted, the design was very straightforward. From our experience we had to make some slight adjustments to his measurements as anybody with a motorhome can testify, things like turning circles, door openings, mirrors & roof antenna has to be taken into consideration when manoeuvring into tight areas.

Our main concerns were designing the canopy with the smallest footprint possible, but whilst also ensuring that the posts were not obstructive with regardings to parking and opening doors.  Guttering was discussed if it was needed or just allow the rain to fall off the roof, but it was agreed guttering is always a good option as it gives a certain level of control of where the water goes.

Roger decided that he would like it to flow towards his compost heap.  Roger & his wife chose to have their motorhome canopy powder coated in Mouse Grey, which is very subtle and blends in well with the surroundings.

Once a manufactured date had been confirmed, our installation team arranged to complete the groundworks in preparation for the canopy install, which would be a week later.  We were very lucky with the groundworks as we, by chance, managed to miss the majority of any large tree roots, much to the pleasure of the groundworks team. Not planned because we didn’t see the roots until Roger sent over some pictures after he had excavated the ground ready for the base!

The motorhome canopy was delivered by the installation team on the day of fitting and Roger was on site to clarify everything was to his satisfaction. Once we had got the initial framework up we asked Roger if he wanted any adjustments making i.e. height or distance to the hedge. The height was slightly higher than he would have liked, so we were able to take 25mm off one of the legs, which would allow the canopy to be at the exact height and be levelled up.

The canopy structure went up quite quickly with the team working well together …. and with Roger being hands-on, we were able to answer any questions quickly and keep up the momentum.

Roger was extremely happy with the canopy throughout the installation process and he took a lot of photos to show the progress.  Roger had also planned out the next stage, which was the excavation of the driveway.

This motorhome canopy was one of the tallest installations we had completed to date, but everything went up without a hitch (apart from forgetting to pick up our wheelbarrow when we had finished). We wait, with anticipation, for Roger to finish his driveway where he promised to send over some completed photos. We will post them here when we have got them.

The Kappion Canopies team would like to thank Roger and his wife for their time and hospitality and hope they are as happy with the project as we are.

Roger sent us a lovely little note on the evening of the installation…. it was muddy, really muddy!

Hi Tim,

We can’t thank you enough for the excellent work that you and your team have given us today, and can’t believe how well all the team worked together, especially in the appalling weather and subsequent mud bath you all had to endure. We can’t wait to see the totally finished canopy in the light but the quality in its “almost finished” condition looked brilliant.

Thank you again for finding such a pleasant ‘crew’ and hope you make sure they get well paid for their good work!!

Regards

Ann & Roger

Jan 2017 UPDATE

Today, Saturday 14th January 2017 we went back to see Roger to see how the canopy was and take pictures and videos of the finished canopy. Roger said he was still really happy with the finished product and that he probably would go another metre to allow for driving rain – a good takeaway we think!
