Double Driveway Carport Installed in Salisbury

Back in April 2016, David (our customer) approached us with a requirement for a double driveway carport canopy to create an extension in front of his garage. The reason they wanted this canopy was to keep the leaves and debris off his and his wife’s cars and to provide an additional work area in front of his garage for DIY projects.

From the initial site visit, it was clear the canopy would need to be custom due to the driveway being wider at the front and narrowing slightly towards the garage. Due to the location and area, David was very keen for the canopy to be sleek and aesthetically pleasing, it needed to fit in with the surrounding area.

Our Ultimate curved canopy was an ideal product as there is no need for intermediate support. This keeps the structure minimal and the curve softens the overall look. David and his wife chose a Brown RAL colour for the steel structure, which would match nicely with his wood clad double garage, his fencing and shrubbery. He also chose Bronze polycarbonate for the roof covering as it would be more subtle and allowed us to provide David with the inconspicuous look he was trying to achieve.

As I started to explain in the previous paragraph, when we visited the site for the first time we discovered that a standard canopy wouldn’t be suitable as the front right leg would have been an obstacle on the driveway. So we decided to design the canopy from scratch and make it tapper and wider at the front so he wouldn’t lose any of his available space. We wanted to make sure that the leg was not a potential hazard when reversing up the drive.

The main issues with the design and installation were the protruding soffit on his existing garage and the front right post. David didn’t have much additional room so we wanted to design an efficient solution. We needed to fit the space well whilst achieving the most coverage possible. We focused the majority of the design time on the front leg and footplates. Usually, the posts are in the centre but we wanted to put the posts to the outside so that they would be as close to the edge of the footprint of the canopy as possible.

Once a manufacturing date had been confirmed, the installation team arranged to complete the groundworks in preparation for the canopy install.

The Kappion canopy team made their way to David’s, roughly a week after the groundworks, with the carport loaded onto the wagon. The team were welcomed by David, his wife & their dog… who were all eager to watch the canopy being constructed.

The carport erection was relatively straightforward, the main challenges were working in a confined space and trying to get it as tight as we could to his garage soffit and up against his fence. Whilst on site we had to make adjustments to the leg heights and adjust his existing security light on his garage, as that would have been in the way of the carport.

The canopy was finished in just two days. David dropped us an email saying that his wife was washing the car under the carport whilst it was raining outside. He was really pleased that they could make the most of the covered area right away.

David was a pleasure to work for and he was an exceptional host, we are so glad they are happy with their carport. As you can see from the pictures above, the carport compliments the surroundings very well.

A note from David following the finishing touches…

Hi Tim,

Your colleague did an excellent job yesterday, and we are really pleased with our new carport and the care and attention you have given throughout the construction.
We would be more than happy to give you a glowing reference if that would be useful for you. Let me know.

Kind regards

DavidDavid
