As part of a wider regeneration project, Ben at Chiltern Designs contacted us with a requirement for a steel wash bay canopy for Volvo down in Canterbury. Due to the amount of vehicles passing through the dealership each day, Volvo wanted a structurally sound and sustainable wash bay that would provide protection to each vehicle and each member of the workforce.
Following the approval of our estimated price we decided to schedule a site visit at Volvo. When our surveyors visited they knew that the design stage of the process would be very straightforward as there was already a concrete pad in situ. Volvo also wanted the wash bay to feature enclosures on the sides and rear that would marry well with the bunding, providing further protection from the high winds.
After our site survey we were able to quickly provide the customer with a final price based on the agreed specs. Once the 25% deposit had been paid with the order, our designers provided the custom engineering drawings which were then imported into a BIM model by Chiltern’s architect. Consequently, the drawings were signed off very quickly by Chilterns and Volvo as it was clear that the wash bay solution fit the space perfectly.
Volvo opted for corolite polycarbonate infill panels on both sides and the rear of the canopy and chose not to have the framework powder-coated as aesthetics were not important. Clear polycarbonate was specified for the roof and side panelling to allow as much light as possible flood into the work area underneath the canopy.
Once the wash bay canopy had been manufactured and a delievery date had been organised, the installation itself was completed within just three days. Following an inspection, Chiltern and Volvo were extremely happy with the finished result.
