Throwback: Delivering Accessible Luxury with a Custom Qubik Canopy in Manchester

Looking back at one of our most rewarding installations in Manchester highlights exactly why custom outdoor living solutions require both precise engineering and thoughtful design. Our client, a local builder named Chris, was managing the construction of a bespoke, fully accessible home for a resident with a disability. The property featured a specialised outdoor hot tub equipped with a hoist, and Chris needed a robust, all-weather structure to cover the area without compromising the garden’s aesthetic or the user’s mobility. We knew immediately how to execute the brief.

The 5x5m Qubik Solution To provide ample space for the hot tub, the hoist mechanism, and seamless maneuverability, we specified a substantial 5×5-meter Qubik canopy. This footprint was critical to ensuring the space felt open and unrestricted while offering total overhead coverage. For the roof, we utilised opal polycarbonate, which diffuses direct sunlight to reduce glare while still allowing ambient natural light to illuminate the space below.

Balancing Protection and Scenery Manchester weather demands serious protection from the elements. To combat driving rain and wind, we integrated a full glass wall on the most exposed elevation. This created a solid weather barrier while preserving uninterrupted, panoramic views of the landscaped garden from the water. To complement the glass, we installed stylish slatted aluminum side panels. These provided additional shelter and privacy while framing a dedicated, wide walkway entirely around the canopy perimeter, specifically designed to accommodate a wheelchair with ease.

Engineered for Longevity A structure of this size requires an uncompromising foundation. Rather than standard surface mounting, we core-drilled through the client’s hardwearing patio slabs and bolted the canopy’s framework directly into a reinforced concrete pad hidden underneath. This structural integration ensures maximum stability and wind resistance year-round.

A Flawless Finish The entire framework was powder-coated in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, a contemporary architectural finish that perfectly tied the new canopy into the modern aesthetic of the new-build home. The result was a highly functional, fully accessible outdoor hydrotherapy space that looks like a seamless extension of the property’s bespoke design.
