A main contractor of Bournemouth Airport (Oakwood Developments) got in touch as they needed a wash bay canopy for Hertz Rent A Car.
Every car that is rented out needs to be cleaned and inspected upon it’s return. Bournemouth airport, like most airports is open to the elements and therefore they really suffer when the weather is bad. Rather than lose staff they made the decision to look after them and cover and protect them from the driving rain and wind.
Following our estimate, we organised a site survey so that we could have a look at the site. The site was essentially a stone and shale car park and not particularly level or flat. The decision was made to bury the posts below ground in concrete piers with rebar. The site was a big open space and has easy access so it quickly became apparent that this would be an easy job for the Kappion installation team.
Once the engineering drawings had been confirmed, sizes etc, the contractor chose to have the structure powder coated in Jet Black (RAL 9005). Due to the application for the canopy the walls were in filled with Corolite, which is a mega-tough solid polycarbonate sheet (not to be mistaken for cheap acrylic that goes yellow and brittle).
The final production drawings were raised and signed off by Hertz, the airport and Oakwood. Clear polycarbonate was specified for the roof, this lets as much light as possible to flood into the work area underneath the canopy – great for washing, finishing or preparing vehicles.
The installation was completed within two days and by the end of the first day, the framework was secured and levelled in preparation for the roof glazing and walls to be finished. Finally, the canopy was cleaned and inspected by Hertz and the main contractor.
After the installation, it was evident that the Jet Black finish and clear polycarbonate worked well together. The canopy looked substantial and the working area underneath the canopy was light and airy. We provided Bournemouth Airport and Hertz with the perfect solution to maintain their regular vehicle clean! Everyone was very pleased with the finished product.
