Wow, what a place this is! We were recently blessed with a perfect sunny day in Wadebridge, Cornwall, to complete one of our most satisfying installations yet.
Every project has its unique challenges and requirements, but this stunning property called for something truly special—a massive, bespoke canopy designed to blend seamlessly into its beautiful surroundings.
The Design: A Perfect Fit
The client’s brief was clear: they needed a covered space expansive enough to park two cars side-by-side comfortably. To achieve this, we designed a canopy with an impressive 8-metre span at the front.
But this wasn’t just a big rectangular box. The driveway had a specific shape, so we engineered a tapered design. The result is a structure that looks like it belongs exactly where it is. It is beautifully positioned, appearing almost as if it “grew” around Peter’s gorgeous existing cobbled retaining wall.
The Secret Sanctuary
One of the best features of this installation is its subtlety. Despite its massive size, the canopy is incredibly discreet. Thanks to the lush, tall hedging along the boundary, you can’t even see the structure from the road. It has created a private, hidden sanctuary for the homeowner’s vehicles.
Heavy Lifting and Bold Engineering
Looking at that massive 8-metre front span, you might be thinking: “How on earth did they lift that beam?”
It’s a great question. That central beam is a substantial piece of steel engineering. To ensure a safe and precise installation without damaging the surrounding driveway or walls, we utilised a specialist spider crane. This allowed us to carefully manoeuvre the heavy steel into its exact position (500kg beam!)
To support that weight and give the entrance a welcoming, bold feel, we utilised chunky 180x100mm steel posts at the front.
The Finish
As with all Kappion canopies, durability and aesthetics go hand-in-hand. The entire structure was subjected to Hot Dip Galvanising (HDG) for ultimate corrosion protection. It was then finished with a sleek powder coating in the modern RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, it was selected specifically to match the customer’s existing property accents and gates, tying the whole look together perfectly.
We are thrilled with how this Wadebridge project turned out. It’s functional, structural art tucked away in a beautiful corner of Cornwall.
