Here at Kappion, we love nothing more than a challenging and rewarding project—especially when it’s for a returning customer! It’s the ultimate compliment when someone trusts us enough to come back for a second installation, and that’s exactly what Simon in Storrington, West Sussex did.
Simon’s latest addition is a truly substantial piece of engineering: a custom-designed H-curved Horsebox Canopy, built to protect his valuable horsebox van from the unpredictable British weather.

Built for Clearance and Protection
When you’re covering a horsebox, standard clearance just won’t cut it. Simon needed a canopy that was high enough to comfortably drive the van underneath, and that’s precisely what we delivered.
This canopy stands 3 metres at its lowest point, providing ample room and making it high enough to drive the horsebox in and out with ease, ensuring the vehicle remains protected and ready to go, whatever the forecast.
The Details That Matter: Duplex Coating and Premium Glazing
As with all our steel structures, quality and longevity are paramount.
The canopy frame is built for the long haul, featuring a full duplex coat for maximum weather resistance. We started with a hot dip galvanisation process—which immerses the steel in molten zinc to create a tough, corrosion-resistant barrier—and finished it with a powder coating in RAL 7016 (Anthracite Grey). This combination ensures the canopy will look great and stand up to the elements for decades.
For the roof, we used Bronze structured polycarbonate glazing. This material is a fantastic choice as it’s incredibly durable, lightweight, and allows just the right amount of diffused light through while keeping rain, snow, and UV rays off the vehicle.
Blending Beauty and Function with Custom Sides
Simon’s design included specific requirements for the side and rear infills, focusing on both aesthetics and superior protection:
- Rear and Right-Hand Side: Here, we installed beautiful Rhombus-shaped, space Thermowood infills. Thermowood is heat-treated to give it incredible stability and resistance to rot, providing a durable and stylish timber screen that offers privacy and protection.
- Left-Hand Side: To tackle the prevailing wind and rain while allowing some air circulation, we fitted one of our excellent Stormshield screens. These screens are 25% permeable, meaning they do an exceptional job of breaking the worst of the weather without turning the space into an airtight box.
This H-curved canopy is more than just a cover; it’s a substantial steel structure custom-made to protect Simon’s investment. We are thrilled with the finished result and even more so that Simon is delighted with his second Kappion canopy.
