We are always thrilled when past clients reach back out to us for their next site expansion. This week, we wrapped up an exciting commercial canopy project for BYD in Macclesfield, a returning customer looking to significantly upgrade their working valet bay facilities.
Here is a closer look at how we delivered a practical, weather-tight, custom shelter tailored specifically to their daily site operations.
Designed for Purpose: 3m x 7m Galvanised Structure
When creating a dedicated vehicle valeting space, workspace dimensions and durablity are paramount.
- Generous Footprint: At 3m x 7m, the canopy provides ample clearance and space to comfortably position a vehicle, move around it freely, and perform full detail valets without physical constraints.
- Galvanised Finish: Because this valet bay sits in an operational, non-customer-facing zone of the facility, there was no need for decorative powder coating. We opted for a heavy-duty, hot-dipped galvanised finish. This ensures maximum corrosion resistance, long-term durability, and low maintenance at an efficient cost point.
Clever Engineering: Perimeter Protection Room
Rather than building a standard freestanding shelter from scratch, our installation team took a custom structural approach to maximise wind and weather protection for the workforce:
- Utilising Existing Infrastructure: We integrated the new canopy directly into the existing site fencing structure.
- Custom Purlin Integration: By fixing heavy-duty purlin bars directly into the surrounding fence posts, we built a sturdy frame to mount Coralite sheeting along the perimeter.
- All-Weather Protection: This bespoke enclosure effectively created a fully sheltered “work room,” completely blocking lateral wind and driving rain so the valeting team can operate comfortably year-round.
Clean Water Management
Effective drainage is critical for any commercial canopy, especially in a wet valeting environment.
To keep the workspace safe and tidy:
- We integrated an internal downpipe system concealed at the front of the structure.
- Rainwater is channeled cleanly down the frame and deposits directly into the customer’s existing subterranean drainage system, preventing standing water and runoff across the bay.
