Welcome back to our blog! We’re kicking off an exciting new chapter this week, and we are absolutely thrilled to take you on the journey of this high-specification custom build for Julian. This isn’t just a standard carport; it’s a bespoke piece of functional, contemporary architecture that is going to transform his outdoor space.
This job is truly a “mega” build—we’ve pulled out all the stops for materials and design. Can you even imagine the finished product? Let us paint a picture for you.
The Vision for Julian’s Build
The final structure is going to be incredibly robust and energy-efficient. At its core, it will feature a dedicated storage section equipped with a fully lockable door for added security.
The roof is where things get serious: we’re installing insulated Thermo Base PUR roof panels for superior thermal performance. The walls are not to be outdone, utilising insulated SIP panels (Structural Insulated Panels) for a high R-value and excellent build speed.
For that clean, modern look, the exterior will be finished with stunning horizontal wood composite cladding, all framed by a slick wrap-around fascia to deliver that seamless, contemporary edge. It’s going to be a real head-turner.
The Foundation: A Clever Design Solution
Great structures are built on solid foundations, and Julian got us off to a fantastic start. He installed precise concrete strip foundations, providing us with rock-solid anchoring points for the structural footplates you can see in the picture. Our next big step is building up the base. Julian is going to fill the central area with 150mm of hardcore, and then we will pour 150mm of concrete directly over it to create a durable, level carport floor.
Here’s where it gets really clever. We’ve designed a special, raised concrete base for the storage section. We’re lifting the floor level by 100mm in the storage area compared to the main carport. This creates two critical advantages:
Waterproofing: It makes it nearly impossible for surface water ingress to affect the valuable contents inside the lockable storage unit.
Cladding Detail: It allows our horizontal wood composite cladding to pass the floor level cleanly, ensuring a perfect, continuous finish.
What You Can See Right Now
In the latest photo from the site, you can see the results of our initial work this week. Our heavy-duty anthracite grey metal framework is already standing tall, anchored securely to Julian’s prepared strip foundations. You can also see the central area has been prepared, with a layer of gravel and the essential steel mesh reinforcement in place, ready for that all-important hardcore fill and concrete pour.
