We recently wrapped up a stunning, completely bespoke canopy project in Gloucester that perfectly showcases why “off-the-shelf” just doesn’t work for ultimate outdoor styling. This wasn’t just a installation; it was an architectural puzzle solved with precision engineering.
The Challenge: TPOs and Tapered Boundaries
Every property has its quirks, but this one had a few beautiful complications:
- The Trees: A gorgeous set of established trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) meant chopping them back wasn’t an option.
- The Hedgerow: The boundary line followed a natural, angled hedgerow rather than a clean, 90-degree angle.
Instead of fighting nature, we built around it. Our team designed the canopy to taper from front to back, seamlessly hugging the line of the hedgerow and neatly respecting the protected trees.
The Secret Weapon: 3D Laser Scanning
How do you build a massive, permanent structure around protected trees and non-standard walls without a single millimeter of error?
The Kappion Advantage: We used our advanced 3D laser scanner to map the entire location before a single piece of steel was cut. This technology allows us to visualise the canopy in the exact space, ensuring a flawless fit around the property’s unique terrain and geometry.
Because of this precision, we were able to configure the canopy into a striking L-shape that wraps effortlessly around the property.
Anatomy of the Build: Contemporary Design Meets Function
