At Kappion, we thrive on challenges that require precision engineering and a keen eye for design. Today, we’re showcasing a recently completed project in Stalybridge for our client, Ian. This installation isn’t just a shelter; it’s a masterclass in how a bespoke canopy can provide high-level security while elevating the aesthetic of a modern home.
Ian was looking for a solution that felt like a natural extension of his property, and we delivered a structure that is as functional as it is visually striking.

The Ultimate First Impression: Anthracite Grey & Thermo Wood
The entire structure is finished in 7016 Anthracite Grey, the gold standard for modern architectural metalwork. This deep, textured grey provides a sophisticated contrast against the red brick of the house and the lush greenery of the garden.
The standout feature is undoubtedly the Thermo Wood Rhombus infills. Unlike standard timber, Thermo Wood undergoes a thermal modification process that makes it incredibly durable, stable, and resistant to decay—perfect for the British weather. The diagonal placement of the rhombus slats provides a contemporary, high-end finish that Ian is absolutely over the moon with.
Engineered for Security
Security was a top priority for this build. At the rear of the canopy, we installed a set of heavy-duty, double lockable gates.
- Steel Construction: These gates are fabricated from high-grade steel, ensuring they are incredibly strong and secure.
- Bespoke Sizing: As with all our products, these gates were custom-sized to fit the aperture perfectly.
- Garden Access: They provide a secure seal for the side of the house while allowing easy, wide-opening access to the rear garden.
Overcoming Site Challenges with “Kappion Standard” Precision
Every home has its quirks, and this Stalybridge site was no different. Our team utilised several clever workarounds to ensure a seamless, professional “built-in” look:
- Integrated Drainage: We hidden the internal downpipe within the structure itself. The outlet is positioned to feed directly into the existing hedgerow, keeping the driveway clear of standing water without unsightly external piping.
- The Soil Pipe Bridge: We encountered a large soil pipe running vertically up the house wall. Rather than compromising the canopy’s position, we engineered a custom bridge to go around it, sealing the join to our rigorous Kappion Standard to ensure it remains watertight.
- Flue Extension Accommodation: We also worked meticulously around an existing boiler flue extension, ensuring the canopy provides full coverage without interfering with the home’s ventilation systems.
- Maximising Space: By wall-attaching one side of the canopy and tucking the opposing posts directly into the hedgerow, we preserved every inch of width on the driveway.
A Seamless Perimeter Finish
To wrap the whole project together, we installed a continuous fascia running around the entire perimeter of the roofline. This hides the structural rafters and the pitch of the roof, giving the canopy a clean, flat-roof appearance that aligns perfectly with modern architectural trends.
Ian now has a secure, stylish, and completely bespoke space that adds significant value and functionality to his home.
