Throwback Friday: A Mighty 12.5-Metre Protector in Cleveland for Andrew’s Pride & Joy

It’s Throwback Friday here at Kappion, and we’re taking a truly magnificent trip back to Cleveland to revisit a remarkable installation for one of our customers, Andrew. When it comes to protecting what matters most, scale and precision are key, and this project had both.

Andrew’s “pride and joy,” a beautiful, large motorhome, needed a serious shelter. But he didn’t just want protection for one vehicle; he needed to cover his car with ease as well. The solution? An incredible Kappion canopy of absolutely whopping proportions.

We engineered and installed this arch-roof canopy to span a massive 12.5 metres in length! This ensures that Andrew can park both his motorhome and his car comfortably and safely, shielded from the sun, rain, and snow. For the frame, Andrew chose the clean and classic RAL 9016 Traffic White finish, which gives the massive structure an elegant, timeless appearance that blends seamlessly with his white-walled property.

Engineered Precision: The Water Management System

The true genius of this design, and a testament to Kappion’s meticulous planning, is the water management system. Installing a massive canopy directly against a property requires careful thought about runoff. The last thing any homeowner wants is water pooling or spilling over.

As you can see from the close-up of the structure in the photo, our design utilises the existing garage eaves area intelligently. The canopy panels themselves are installed with a slight fall, ensuring that rainwater is immediately directed towards the building.

Here is the intricate details of how the water is managed, just as depicted:

Water Direction: Rainwater runs along the canopy polycarbonate with that slight, calculated fall.

Collection: It is collected by an integral gutter system running along the inner, rear edge of the canopy. This isn’t just an add-on; it’s a built-in feature of the Kappion frame itself.

The Hidden Path: From the internal gutter, the water is cleverly directed down the inside of the support posts. This means there are no unsightly downpipes clunking up the sleek lines of the structure.

Final Outlet: The water exits the post at a designated, discreet outlet point, shown in the image analysis.

The result is a clean, aesthetically pleasing, and highly functional solution that protects Andrew’s motorhome and car while ensuring that water is moved efficiently and invisibly away from the building. It’s solutions like this that we are so proud to look back on.
