VW Towcester (Jardine Motors), our customer approached us with a requirement for a Handover Bay to go along side their sales office, for when customers visit to pick up there newly purchased vehicle.
The main criteria was a canopy which would house the vehicles after they had been valeted and somewhere the salesperson could unveil the vehicle to the new owner under cover and keep the owner, the salesperson and the gleaming vehicle clean & dry.
Due to the size of the area they wanted to cover, the canopy itself was a double curved canopy and a fairly straightforward design as the area was open with limited obstacles and obstructions.
Once the final drawings had been signed off VW Towcester wanted the structure to be powder coated in Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016), which would compliment the surroundings, sales & service building and area. They chose Clear polycarbonate for the roof glazing, which would give maximum light into the canopy.
We made a video. Click to watch.
Once a manufactured date had been confirmed, the installation team arranged a suitable date for the canopy to be delivered and erected.
Installation of the canopy was slow going at first, due to the undulation in the ground. We needed to set the canopy out for the height of the first section perfectly otherwise it would effect the finished height of the second curve. After the initial set out (and a very long first day) the canopy installation was straightforward and by the end of the first day the majority of the canopy structure was in place. On the second day we glazed the whole canopy, completed the footings for the second curve and finished off the groundworks.
By the time we were wiping the canopy down and loading the vans up, the customer was already using the canopy.
